A sweet and pitiless vegan and activist silent book, which reveals the sham of the meat industry, and also a trip to the Shelters of the Rete dei Santuari di Animali Liberi (Network of Free Animal Sanctuaries) in Italy through the words of those who, every day, welcome and protect animals that are victims of mistreatment and imprisonment.

Under a clear sky, animals freely roam and graze on a beautiful meadow, among flowers and lush trees. Families of rabbits, pigs, horses and sheep enjoy the beautiful day side by side. But all of a sudden, their attention is caught by some pink silhouettes peeping out from behind the treetops. As they move closer, the silhouettes grow bigger and bigger: they look like bizarre flying figures with a big round nose and a huge smiling mouth. Once down to the ground, they move closer to the animals that now recognize them: they are clowns in colourful robes coming from who knows where, maybe to make friends. Meanwhile, strange clown-shaped aircrafts descend from the sky, dropping food from their mouths. But this is not a disinterested gift: the animals, stunned, are taken to a nightmare place, a real lager from which they will never come out alive… Reversing the communication clichés normally used to promote meat consumption – from the advertising images of animals happy to end up sliced on our plates to McDonald’s clowns – Roger Olmos reveals how much sadness hides behind the cheerful labels of food products based on meat and animal derivatives. A harsh story, told without any reticence, which, in the second part of the book, leaves room for hope, through the reports of people who work every day to build a better world. They are the managers and volunteers of the Santuari di Animali Liberi, shelters that welcome and save animals from a life of mistreatments, guaranteeing them a dignified existence and full respect for the needs of every species.
