From stage to paper: the graceful dance of Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette turns into an illustrated album.

As he wanders through the woods hunting birds, Prince Siegfried is attracted by a flock of beautiful swans. Having decided to kill one of them, he follows it to the shore of a lake in the middle of the forest. But as soon as the graceful animals land on the water, they magically transform into beautiful girls. One in particular captures the young man’s attention, Princess Odette, who tells him that she and her ladies-in-waiting are under the spell of the evil Rothbart, that turns her into a swan during the day and into a girl again at night. Only a promise of marriage can free her from the curse, so Siegfried, madly in love with her, invites Odette to the ball where he is to choose his bride the following evening. Little does he know, however, that Rothbart has learned of his intentions and has already devised a wicked plan to deceive him.

After exploring the world of fairy tales with Messer Gatto (Puss in Boots), Barbablù (Bluebeard), La Bella e la Bestia (Beauty and the Beast) and Cappuccetto Rosso (Little Red Riding Hood), Gabriel Pacheco now intertwines fairy-tale and ballet, telling the story of one of the most famous works by Russian musician Tchaikovsky through ethereal images in which, among princely palaces and enchanted forests, the characters seem to twirl and turn en pointe. The illustrations, built almost like a stage that the protagonists and the extras seem to enter and leave, alternate the bright pastel shades of yellow and blue with the opaqueness of ochre and brown, underlining the symbolism of a story without words, which was born in music and is now reinterpreted through images.
